DECISION INFORMATION

Turn expectations into assumptions that can be examined.

A budget or forecast is a structured view of what may happen under stated assumptions. We help organise the model, inputs and review process around the business question being considered. The outcome is a planning tool, not a promise of revenue, profitability, funding or future performance.

Define the planning structure

We establish the time horizon, business activities and level of detail needed. Historical records can provide context, but future assumptions require management input. Sales expectations, cost behaviour, staffing and planned investment should have an identifiable basis. Model complexity is matched to the decision rather than added for its own sake.

Examine scenarios and dependencies

The agreed work may compare a base case with alternative assumptions for timing, volume or cost. We document what changes between scenarios and which outcomes are sensitive to those changes. Dependencies such as financing, supplier terms or a proposed expansion are made explicit. Unconfirmed actions should not appear as completed facts within the model.

Review against actual activity

A recurring plan can be updated using agreed actuals and a recorded version of management's latest assumptions. Variance analysis helps identify where the model or operating response needs attention. We explain the handover, update responsibilities and limitations. Investment, lending or tax advice is not automatically included in a planning assignment.

Common questions

Do we need a detailed model for every department?

Not necessarily. The level of detail should support the decision and the information your team can maintain consistently.
