DECISION INFORMATION

Give decision-makers a consistent view of performance.

Management information should connect the financial position with the questions leaders need to answer. We help design an agreed reporting pack that brings relevant measures, comparisons and explanations together. Its usefulness depends on consistent definitions, reliable inputs and a review conversation, not the number of charts displayed.

Select the decisions and measures

We ask which decisions are recurring and what information is currently missing. The pack may cover income, expenditure, margins, working capital and other measures supported by the records. Definitions and reporting frequency are agreed so readers understand what each measure includes. Estimates and incomplete information should be identified rather than presented as settled facts.

Explain movement and exceptions

A useful review distinguishes ordinary fluctuations from matters needing attention. We can organise period comparisons, budget variances and supporting commentary within the scope. Changes in definitions or source data are explained where they affect comparability. The report should direct readers to questions and responsible actions, rather than imply certainty unsupported by the data.

Build a reporting routine

The handover can include a pack structure, source list and reporting calendar. Ownership of preparation, review and decision-making remains explicit. A later change to the business may require a revised measure or format. Management reporting does not replace statutory reporting or provide assurance unless a separate engagement establishes that service.

Common questions

Can you improve an existing spreadsheet pack?

Yes. We assess its source links, definitions and audience before recommending changes. Replacing it with a dashboard is not an automatic requirement.
