OPERATING RECORDS
Explain the difference before accepting the balance.
A reconciliation compares related records and identifies why they differ. We support agreed bank, customer, supplier and other balance reconciliations, subject to the available evidence. The purpose is not merely to make two totals equal, but to document the items that explain the position and the action needed.
Establish the comparison
We identify the accounts, dates and source statements included in the assignment. Opening differences and timing issues are distinguished from current-period activity. Complete source records are important: a partial export can produce an apparent difference that is not a genuine accounting error. Access and data-transfer arrangements are agreed before records are collected.
Investigate the outstanding items
Unmatched receipts, duplicated payments, charges and other exceptions are reviewed within the scope. Questions are directed to the person able to confirm the transaction. Proposed corrections require approval and supporting evidence. A reconciliation should preserve genuine outstanding items rather than hide them in a generic adjustment.
Maintain a reviewable schedule
The output can include the reconciliation, aged exceptions and a summary of approved corrections. Items carried forward retain their explanation and next action. A recurring service can establish a frequency and responsible reviewer. Investigating a discrepancy does not automatically constitute a fraud investigation or independent assurance engagement.
Common questions
Can software matching replace this review?
Automated suggestions may assist the process, but the selected match still needs appropriate review and evidence. We assess the actual platform and configured rules before relying on its workflow.
